While You Were at the Bar 5/13

We started out all highbrow, but we know what you really like.

News you can use:

A massive earthquake shook the Chinese province of Sichuan on Monday. The quake registered a 7.9 on the Richter scale and caused mass destruction and death. Early estimates count almost 9,000 dead and hundreds more trapped in fallen rubble.

Former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr has announced his bid for the White House with the Libertarian party. First he must gain the nomination from the party at their convention that begins on May 22nd. Barr has hired Ross Perot's former campaign manager in hopes of pulling in more of the vote than the previous Libertarian nominee, which was less than one percent.

NBC made final its plans to replace Conan O'Brien, who is moving to the "Tonight" show, with former Saturday Night Live cast member Jimmy Fallon. The switch will happen near the middle of next year.

News you can lose:

SJP hit the red carpet in London for the world premiere of the Sex and the City movie sporting a very different hat. Not I, my friends, I will leave that madness to Carrie.

Word of the day:

diktat: meaning a harsh settlement unilaterally imposed on a defeated party or an authoritative decree or order.

Yes ma'am I chose this WOD in relation to the diktat weekly special!

I feel so ill about the earthquake...

Now for my obligatory air-brained comments. The SJP hat made me laugh out loud. Really?! I mean, I love her, don't get me wrong. But it's like she lost a dare on that one.

And, it must be said: Break me off a piece of that diktat bar!
