Gotta Have It

If I were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 items would I want with me to survive?

This question is difficult to really limit yourself to 5 and not repeat answers already given. I think the only creative thing I have might be my counting skills, because like Megan, I'm grouping a few things together to count as one!

1. Personal care items: Toothpaste, toothbrush, SUNSCREEN (I've already had some pre-cancerous moles removed, so gotta take care of my skin) CHAPSTICK (I'm a little addicted and must have it, at least at night before going to bed) LOTION (again, after a shower, it's like I can feel my body drying out) Shampoo AND separate Conditioner (my hair can turn into a greasy bird's nest so quickly and I have NO skills whatsoever with styling it, so it at least needs to look clean and healthy - especially since it will be wild and frizzy in the island heat - yes, I have total "weather hair")

2. Computer with Internet Access. I agree, with this one item, you're golden - access to the world, books, movies, music! other people. And without it, I would surely go into withdrawal and shrivel up and not have the will to go on. Despite whatever beautiful views and environment I was ensconced.

3. Camera - again, I'm stealing from Megan, but I LOVE pictures and have this compulsion to share with people in order for my own experience to fully be enjoyed.

4. Soft, comfy bed with appropriate bedding AND good pillows. Even when it's hot, I still like to have something over me, so I would need some light breathable blankets. And I like bigger, fluffy pillows for a good night's sleep.

5. Laundry detergent? I love the smell of clean clothes and would definitely want to be able to wash my sweaty sunscreen sheets. I thought about saying a washing machine so I wouldn't have to hand wash, but there's something organic and fulfilling about washing clothes in the wild (maybe if there is a fresh water stream with river stones? rather than the gritty salt water of the ocean that surely surrounds me) and hanging them out in the bright sun to dry. I also thought about just saying a refrigerator that keeps restocking itself with yummy food that's already prepared and drinks. And logic tells me I'm going to need a knife.

3 tips left at the bar:

Oooh, good thinking about a knife! That would be so necessary but not something I would think of right off the bat.

I agree that I too would shrivel up and lose the will to continue without a computer!

I can't even go half a day without the computer. Really. Sad, but true.

All worthy items, a great list. If you built a fancy shelter, you'd have the ultimate tropical getaway on your hands!

Wait, is that 5 items or Twenty-5?? : )

I'm totally with you on the sunscreen. I've been concerned about sunburn since we announced this week's special!
