The Olympic torch relay made its way through Australia's capital, Canberra on Thursday. The Chinese community in Sydney and other cities organized bus trips to the route to support the relay.

Two Generals most closely linked with President Bush's strategy in Iraq have been offered new positions that will extend into the next administration. General David Petraeus, senior commander in Iraq, will become in charge of all military affairs across the Middle East and Central Asia. Lt. General Raymond Odierno will succeed General Petraeus.

Two warehouse retail chains, Costco and Sam's Club, are limiting the amount of bulk rice customers can buy due to recent 'supply and demand trends.' This imposed limit is creating some concern that there is a rice shortage, however it is more likely that small business customers are buying more rice than usual in anticipation of higher prices in the near future.
