Electric Blues

Some recent WTF moments from Pen's world.

*My phone doesn't ring a whole lot (not that I want it to), but in the past two weeks, I've been getting a lot of Sorry You Have the Wrong Numbers. Calls for people named Shirley, or Elaine, or whoever. They're not from solicitors, and the area codes are both local and long-distance. I have no idea why, just all of a sudden, these wrong-number dialers are coming out of the wordwork.

*My hair dryer, which is not that old, lately sounds high-pitched and whiny, in the manner of a vacuum cleaner, or two-year-old. I'm not sure what that's about, but I fear it may one day burst spontaneously into flames, and take my hair with it. I figure I'll really start worrying when it starts to smell like smoke.

*My computer registers only certain wall outlets. I move the laptop around the office quite a bit, based on where the employees will be camped out, and my battery life is decent, but not stellar. I always feel a little adrenalized when I'm working off the battery, like it's going to run out in the middle of a Really Important Email or Blog Post. I cannot afford to have my brilliance lost! Anyway, what is up with that. I thought maybe there was dust on the little piece that plugs into the computer? But that's not it. And certain outlets that used to work don't anymore. And sometimes the top part of the outlet works, but not the bottom. Or vice versa. We don't seem to have any other electrical issues in the house. Oh, except maybe the hair dryer. I don't know, I don't get it. WTF.

I always think I hear the phone ring or screams when I'm vacuuming or drying my hair. I can't imagine it actually making those noises! It would make me nervous about catching my hair on fire as well. good luck!

when one part of the outlet works, but not the other (top/bottom) it can be because it's on a switch that got flipped off, perhaps?
